Jamie Sayer
Founder, Managing Director, Tutor.
Since 2016, Jamie has collected more than a thousand diverse hours of 1-to-1 tuition and teaching: from 11+ preparation and A-Level Maths to volunteering as an English teacher at a local charity.
From his previous role as Head of Client Services at a London-based tuition agency, he wanted to find a way to deliver inspiring tuition while making a positive social impact. From this, Ripple Learning came into being.
Jamie continues to tutor, as the learning process never stops – and also serves as a helpful reminder of his own aging process. However, he spends most of his time speaking with clients and tutors for too long, while managing the day-to-day operations.
He spends his free time playing the same chords on the guitar over and over, while wondering why he never improves.
The Ripple Tutors
Ripple Learning’s main asset isn’t a clever piece of technology, nor is it a swanky office. It’s our special team of tutors and teachers that makes Ripple Learning.
Our mission and values attract some inspiring, dedicated people; highly-qualified and experienced tutors and teachers (a few of whom you can see here) who strive to make a lasting impact on their students’ lives.
Ripple Learning places an emphasis on really getting to know each tutor from the start, in order to ensure the best possible match for each student we tutor.
For that reason, we interview each tutor with the goal of understanding what motivates them, how they share their knowledge and how they keep bettering themselves day in, day out.
There are a lot of highly qualified people out there, but we look above and beyond for those that have a ‘spark’, alongside the prized values of compassion and intellectual humility that only a lifelong learner can have.

Some of Ripple’s Tutors
Maya
Maya is a visual artist and one of Ripple’s specialist tutors with extensive experience supporting students of all ages with Maths, English, and exam preparation. She has worked closely with learners with SEN, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and dyspraxia, tailoring her approach to each child’s needs.
She has taught in Reggio Emilia preschools in Brooklyn and Paris, supported older students through UCL access programmes, and spent over ten years working as an editor and test writer for an educational software company, developing deep expertise in how children learn.
Outside of tutoring, Maya spends most of her time in her art studio; she also enjoys visiting museums and galleries, reading novels, and going for long walks.
Ollie
Ollie is a qualified teacher with a PGCE and Masters in Education from UCL. They have experience from Year 3 to GCSEs, teaching Maths, English and Science.
They have also worked closely with students with SEN, including 1:1 support and transitional programmes in the US.
Their teaching is relational and adaptive, helping students build confidence while making steady academic progress. They draw on their strong classroom background and SEN experience to tailor sessions that are both clear and engaging.
Outside of tutoring, Ollie enjoys gardening and growing vegetables, building Lego creations, arts and crafts, walking and spending time with their cats.
Maia
Maia studies at UCL and has experience supporting students from Primary to GCSE with Maths, English and 11+ preparation. Having attended Latymer Upper, she brings first-hand insight into selective school pathways and interviews.
She has worked closely with pupils on verbal and non-verbal reasoning, interview technique, and exam confidence, often creating tailored resources to make sessions more engaging. Maia has supported GCSE students with ADHD using a calm, humorous and patient approach that helps students stay confident and engaged.
Outside of tutoring, Maia enjoys the gym, theatre, travel, and creative pursuits shaped by her background in ballet and time spent travelling in South America.
Alasdair
Alasdair has been teaching since 2012 across a range of settings, from private tutoring to classroom teaching. He specialises in 11+ English, GCSE English Language and Literature & Drama, while also supporting students with Primary/11+ Maths.
He has held roles such as Head of Theatre Studies at Charterhouse and later worked at Berkshire College of Agriculture, helping students who had previously failed GCSE English to persevere and succeed.
Outside of teaching, Alasdair is a professional actor with West End appearances, most recently as Mr Paravicini in The Mousetrap. He lives with his cat, Mackerel, and enjoys cooking, gardening, politics, pub quizzes, travelling and learning Portuguese.
Sam
Sam graduated from Cambridge with a First Class Honours degree in Philosophy and Politics. He has experience supporting children from Years 4 to 6 in English and Maths, working locally as a TA with Literacy Pirates in Dalston.
He brings patience and adaptability to one-to-one sessions, especially when supporting learners with dyslexia, ADHD, or other learning differences. His passionate, relational style makes lessons engaging and encouraging.
Outside of tutoring, Sam enjoys acting, reading, community activities, and exploring philosophy, politics, and the arts.
Ryan
Ryan has been tutoring since 2018 and is one of our 11+ English specialists: he has helped students gain entrance to City of London Boys, Henrietta Barnett, Latymer Grammar, Highgate and UCS—to name just a few.
Ryan teaches English to all levels and has experience tutoring Maths up to Year 6.
Furthermore, he has experience as a LAMDA tutor and has also held teaching assistant roles specifically supporting neurodivergent students,
In his spare time, Ryan loves theatre and cinema. He also enjoys attending art exhibitions and recently curated an exhibition at The Cinema Museum.
